The 43-year-old is one of several investors behind Eaze, a Californian company that delivers medical marijuana to people who have placed an order using their app.

To the extent that all apps tend to be "[other app] for [noun]" ("Tinder for real relationships"), Eaze is best described as "Uber for weed".

The app, which launched in San Francisco in July 2014, matches users up with delivery drivers, and boasts that most deliveries take less than 20 minutes.

According to Quartz, the rapper's Casa Verde Capital was one of four notable investors in the most recent round of fundraising for the app, which raised $US10 million.

Marijuana is currently only legal in the state of California for medicinal purposes. However, in 2010 the possession of less than one ounce of the drug was reduced to an infraction, as opposed to a misdemeanour, reducing the penalty a $US100 fine, which is on par with a traffic offence.

Mr Dogg, real name Calvin Cordozar Broadus jnr has often ended up on the wrong side of the law as a result of his possession of marijuana.

In October 2006, he was arrested at California's Bob Hope Airport after being found in possession of marijuana and a firearm.

He was arrested again after being found with the same substance a month later, returning from an appearance on The Tonight Show With Jay Leno.

The rapper received a three-year suspended sentence for the incidents, and was required to perform 800 hours of community service.

In June 2012 Snoop was banned from entering Norway for two years after trying to enter the country with eight  grams of the substance.

The Drop it Like it's Hot rapper is certified to use medical marijuana for migraines in states where such use is legalised.

Snoop Dogg has been an outspoken advocate for the legislation of marijuana.

"There would be less high-speed chases, less robberies, less crime," he told the Hollywood Reporter when asked what an America where marijuana was legalised would look like.

"Go to Amsterdam or the Netherlands, where it is legal, and you see that the crime rate is nonexistent, the murder rate is probably under 10 percent, people learn to get along! There are people riding on bicycles being happy and it's because of the environment that's provided by the legalisation of marijuana."

In the same interview, the rapper admitted to smoking the substance with his 18-year-old son, saying that he was learning from "the master".

But the rapper doesn't just smoke in his own home.

In a July 2014 interview with Jimmy Kimmel, he also admitted to smoking marijuana in the White House.

Speaking on an episode of his YouTube show Snoop Dogg's GGN, he told Kimmel he smoked the joint in the bathroom while visiting the Obamas after telling officials he normally lit a cigarette after going to the toilet.

"They said, 'You know what, you can light a piece of napkin.' And I said, 'I'll do that.' Snoop said, before taking a puff of his bong and adding, "And the napkin was this."
