RUGBY LEAGUE: The Roos are making a claim for redemption this season, but captain/coach Aaron Gorrell said the team's sub-par performance in their 20-point loss to West Belconnen at Raiders Belconnen was way off the mark.

Gorrell said the Warriors did not neccessarily win, but the Roos handed them the two points with their high error count.
"We dropped too much ball- we only completed something like 40 per cent," he said.
"They took their opportunies and we didn't, but it was a pretty average game- we invited them into our territory and made it easy for them and basically handed them some of their tries.
"The way we played we didn't deserve to win."
Despite the number of turnovers the match was four all approaching halftime, until an 8-point try was controversially awarded to the home side.
"I don't really know why it was an 8-point try, no one was sent off," Gorrell said.
The score blew out in the second half, but Gorrell said he was almost glad his team could not come back for the win.
"I'm glad they put a score on us," he said.
"If we managed to come back we probably wouldn't have taken as much notice and brushed off the poor performance.
"Hopefully we'll take it as a lesson and hopefully it will be the last time the scoreboard will read a score like that."
The final score was an undesirable 36 to 16 against the Roos, but Gorrell said hopefully the boys can learn from the loss and improve their game for their first home game against Belconnen United on Saturday.
"We looked good in patches and for the amount of ball we had we created a number of opportunities," he said.
"And our defence was good in patches.
"But we have to play for 80 minutes, not patches."
Gorrell said Jed Pearce (1 try), Bryan Cronan and UK import Jack Miller (1 try, 2 goals) all played well for the side.
A number of players are still yet to return to the side and the captain/coach said the amount of new players mean the team may take a bit to come together.
"We do have a few still to come back and a few young blokes debuted," Gorrell said.
"The boys at one, six, seven and nine are all new, so it takes a bit of time to get the combinations right.
"Saying that hopefully we can get the win this week before we drop a few games.
"If we stick to the game plan we can match it with most teams."
