Founder Heather Foggett has organised a 'Superhero Fun Day' for Saturday, April 11. She needs more than 2000 caped crusaders to break the record for 'the most superheroes in one place at one time'.
The record currently belongs to the US with 1580 people suited up in their finest superhero threads but Mrs Foggett is confident they can break it.
"We think we can break it, I'd love to say we'll smash it," she said.
"We need the support of the community and we hope they'll get behind us. It's a great thing for Queanbeyan as well, wouldn't it be fantastic for us to be acknowledged too?"
The Superhero Fun Day will be held at the Queanbeyan Showground with gates opening at 10.30am.
The world record attempt will commence at noon with participants required to stay for at least five minutes.
Participants must come dressed in a recognisable superhero costume and register to be counted in the world record attempt. No villain costumes will be allowed.
"People don't need to go out and buy an expensive costume," Mrs Fogett said.
"We're using the Hulk as an example. People can paint themselves green, wear a ripped t-shirt and then they can be identified as the Hulk.
"We just want people to get into the spirit of it."
The Superhero Fun Day will also include family friendly activities like markets stalls, roaming magicians, rides and a bouncy castle.
Mrs Foggett said the Superhero world record attempt helps raise awareness of the work of Capes 4 Kids and was also a thank you to the community for their support.
Founded just nine months ago, Capes 4 Kids sends handmade capes to sick children providing them with an 'armour' to get them through hospital visits and tough times.
The organisation relies on volunteers sewers to create the capes and then they are posted out to hospitals.
More than 3500 capes have been delivered to sick children.
"It started with just an idea and grew and now we've gone national," Mrs Foggett said.
"Recently we've secured access to every hospital in the Northern Territory. It means we're now present in every state and territory in the country and we're still growing."
The Superhero Fun Day will be held at the Queanbeyan Showground on Saturday, April 11. Gates open at 10.30am and entry is a gold coin donation. For more information visit www.capes4kidsaustralia.com.au.
