Showed why selectors were determined to retain him in the squad despite a side strain which sidelined him for the first half of Australia's group matches. Man of the match with three wickets in the final. Rarely needed with the bat but played valuable cameos against India and Scotland.

A perfect rating for a perfect individual performance. Don't be deceived by his 22 wickets only ranking him equal fifth for scalps in a World Cup; all those above him played two or three more matches than he did. Bowled at the toughest times of the match.

Mitch Johnson 8

It was, despite punishment inflicted by Brendon McCullum and Tillakaratne Dilshan, never a matter of being out of form; simply that he had been upstaged by fellow left-armer Starc. Used in the middle orders, where his pace unsettled batsmen set on survival. Key top-order wickets in semi-final and final were a reminder of his value.

Josh Hazlewood 7.5

His accuracy and sharp bounce suited him to long spells with the new ball, and overall his ability to restrict scoring allowed peers Starc and Johnson to attack. Started in underwhelming fashion but finished as a key cog in the attack.

Pat Cummins 6

Unlucky to be dropped before the finals but still has potential to be a great death bowler, and will be better for the World Cup experience.

Xavier Doherty 4.5

0 wickets with 60 runs conceded

Australian pitches unsuited to spin and Maxwell's solid off-spin meant Doherty was always set to play no more than a cameo role. His only chance came in the SCG match against Sri Lanka, in which he had a catch dropped and had decent figures until conceding 19 runs in his final over.
