Dargaville roamed to either side of the field in a busy first-half display, but was starved of ball after the break as the Easts pack, boasting four Brumbies players, began to dominate.

Perennial cellar-dwellars Easts stole their first victory of the John I Dent Cup season when scrum-half Simon Webber scurried over from close range in the dying seconds.

Just moments earlier a Luke Duffey penalty had given Gungahlin a 31-28 lead, but the Eagles couldn't hold out the Easts set piece. Brumbies flanker Jordan Smiler scored two tries for Easts to help them bounce back from a loss to Uni-Norths in round one.

Dargaville and Tuggeranong Brumbies-contracted player Nigel Ah Wong are chances to replace Kuridrani at outside centre, although Brumbies coach Stephen Larkham is weighing up other options.

Ah Wong played strongly in the Vikings' 32-31 win over Wests in his first game back from a broken arm. Dargaville, recruited from National Rugby Championship side Sydney Stars, has played a utility role off the bench for the Brumbies in the early rounds of this season.

"I've got a long way to go before I'm at the level of someone like Tevita Kuridrani," Dargaville said. "I was just trying to get touches, I haven't played much footy this year with 10 or 20-minute bursts off the bench. I've been playing wing the last two years but I do enjoy playing 13, it would be big shoes to fill."

Smiler said Dargaville is capable of stepping up if Larkham gives him the nod. "I think it's Tevita's first major injury but it's given someone an opportunity to step up, and if it's 'Dargs' it will be good for him," Smiler said. "It's a chance to say I'm good enough to start at that level."

In the other match, Queanbeyan accounted for Royals 34-27 to stay unbeaten after two rounds.
