It's not all about the sausage (or the politics). The offering at Alexandria Park Community School was a celebration of the condiments, the bread and the fillings, too. Veggie patties were flying off the hot plate but a sausage and egg sandwich proved the gastronomical winner.

The soft succulence of the perfectly cooked Woolies sausage was beautifully offset by the hard bite of a fried egg cooked to buggery. Both elements were lifted nicely by a good combination of condiments on offer: barbecue sauce, tomato sauce, American mustard and hot chilli.
More sauce, more fun.
The only disappointment was the bread option – just two slices of white when schools down the road were offering crusty pane di casa or, at the very least, some moist multigrain.
But, to their credit, these barbecue dads nailed the mix of old and new. Traditional Tip Top (kept away from the sun and wind so as to maximise freshness – tick) with a dash of chilli and a refreshing combo of sausage, egg and optional onion.
Washed down with a can of lemonade in the serenity of the school car park, this was an obvious Election Day victory.
