Member for Monaro John Barilaro launched the competition in Queanbeyan, one of 11 centres to host the sport.
"Whether you want some extra fitness or just an opportunity to meet new people and throw the footy around, Viva 7s is a great opportunity for men and women, boys and girls of all ages," Barilaro said.
"Viva 7s is a non-contact form of the game that makes it a safe option for everyone to play and enjoy.
"(It) is a direct result of a $100,000 investment from the NSW Government across regional areas of the state such as Dubbo, Bathurst and Orange."
Mr Barilaro said Viva 7s will kick off in Queanbeyan and cover areas such as Dubbo, Bathurst and Orange, allowing the community to get involved and have some fun with their friends and family."
The game is modified to suit a more sociable game, said ARU general manager for participation, Andrew Larratt.
"It's a rugby experience that involves everyone in the family," he said.
"It aims to reach into the community and bring new families into rugby."
Modified rules include, touches replacing tackles and teams having seven touches to score before the ball is turned over.
Two short, sharp matches are played in the one session- each match is 16 minutes long. And there are seven players on the field- men, women or mixed.
