Capital Football is delighted to report a major increase in the number of teams participating in the ActewAGL Junior League for 2015. A mammoth 54 extra teams have been entered into the various junior league divisions in the under-10 to under-18 age brackets bringing the total number of teams in the leagues to 496.

The increase equates to roughly 1,000 extra players taking part in football in the national capital continuing to cement the sport as the most popular participation sport in Canberra and surrounding area. With increased numbers also expected in the under-5 to under-9 age groups, this is a boom time for the sport.
"We are extremely happy that the growth of the sport continues apace in the ACT," Capital Football CEO Heather Reid commented.
"With the success of the 2014 FIFA World Cup and the 2015 AFC Asian Cup, coupled with Canberra United's Westfield W-League triumph, the number of youngsters being attracted to the game is growing at a rapid rate.
"Football is regarded by parents as a safe sport to play and is a fantastic opportunity for youngsters to make friends and learn the importance of teamwork and respect in a fun environment."
"It is coming to the stage where we have literally run out of room to play junior league football.
"We will continue to lobby local government about our need for extra football facilities to enable the youth of Canberra to play the sport. It's imperative that we keep these players interested in the game as they are the future administrators, coaches and players that will bring on the next generation."
