Yesterday morning, teachers and students returning to Queanbeyan East Public School found plants strewn all over school gardens, windows broken and sports equipment missing.

Queanbeyan Police confirmed someone had broken into the school over the weekend. They believe perpetrators gained entry to the building through a ground-floor window.

"Once inside, they stole a tent and sporting equipment including a cricket set and footballs," duty officer Mark O'Donnell said.

"It appears the same offenders have also caused an amount of damage to the school."

Police reported approximately 25 freshly-planted plants were ripped from garden beds and rocks used to crack two windows and scratch a further six windows.

Queanbeyan Police are currently investigating the incident in addition to a break-in at Googong and attempted break-in at Queanbeyan in the last week.

On Thursday, March 5, a resident managed to scare off a would-be intruder.

The occupant was at their Buttle St home when they heard a noise at about 11.15pm. They went to investigate and saw a male standing in the backyard. Upon seeing the occupant, the male has taken off.

He was described as being of Caucasian appearance, about 18-years-old, with a thin build and wearing a red cap.

On Tuesday, March 3, a robber stole an amount of property including a tent and compound bow from a Swan Drive, Googong home. The unknown person gained entry to the premises through the garage.

Duty officer O'Donnell couldn't comment on whether the incidents were linked and police did not believe they were targeted attacks.

He warned residents to ensure their property was secure, remain vigilant and to report any suspicious activity.

The incidents come after a break-in at Riverside Clubhouse where vandals kicked in doors and caused about $1000 worth of damage.
