The annual event is back for another year but at a new location, the Queanbeyan Showground and this year's theme is 'country and western'.
On Saturday participants will take turns walking around the track for 24 hours with all money raised going to the Cancer Council. The target has been set at $110,000.
Miss Riley, 30, is the team captain of the Classique Crew and is somewhat of a veteran having participated in the Relay for Life since it first launched in Queanbeyan four years ago.
She generously shared some of her tips with Queanbeyan Age readers ahead of the weekend. She recommended packing a sleeping bag, two pairs of shoes and socks and a towel.
"Make sure you have a good, supportive team. Make sure you're organised that you have everything you want and need for the weekend with you and dress for every sort of weather," she said.
"That means wet weather, dry weather, hot and cold weather."
The Relay for Life has become a tradition for the Classique Crew which is made up of employees from Crawford Street's Classique Hairdressing as well as friends and family. The team have prepared their costumes of flannelette shirts and Akubra hats to match this year's country and western theme, picked out their special baton and prepared some extra snacks for the relay.
"We usually have something that everyone has to carry around the track, last year it was a hat. This year we have a hobby horse to go with the country and western theme," Miss Riley said.
"A lot of our team count their laps in jelly beans. So they'll put 10 jelly beans in their pocket and every time they walked past our team, they'll eat one jelly bean. Once they finish all their jelly beans, they know they've done 10 laps!"
Miss Riley and her sister Danielle Riley first started participating in the Relay for Life because their family had been affected by cancer. So impressed were they with the community event that they put up their hands to be part of the committee last year.
Danielle is in charge of the entertainment while Miss Riley said she'll act as a bit of an all-rounder on the day.
They've organised some live entertainment including bands Brewn, the Sing Australia Choir and Jetson 5 as well as kids activities, show rides and a mechanical bull to go with the theme.
"You're just there to drum up a bit of excitement and keep people entertained because 24 hours is a long time," Miss Riley said.
"When it gets to those dark hours of the night it's hard to keep people motivated. So, you know we hand out some lollies and you make a clown of yourself to keep people happy."
The Queanbeyan Relay for Life will be held at the Queanbeyan Showground from Saturday, February 21 at 9.15am. Registrations will still be accepted on the day. For more information visit www.relayforlife.org.au.
