A black back-pack containing a police notebook, traffic infringement book and some other items of personal property belonging to the involved police officer was taken out the front of Queanbeyan Kmart on Wednesday, February 4.
The items were taken at about 11.30am that day while plain clothes police were intervening in a fight that had started in Morisset Street, Queanbeyan
"The theft of this equipment is particularly upsetting given that the officer was at the time trying to protect a member of the public from being assaulted," Inspector Neil Grey said.
"The items of police property stolen are not of any significant value but their return, and the return of the officer's personal property, is of the utmost importance."
Just four days later on Sunday, February 8, a police-issued torch and notebook was deliberately stolen while police were responding to a noise complaint on Cameron Road.
The complaint was in relation to a party where officers found a number of underage drinkers.
While completing an arrest just after midnight, the torch and a police notebook were stolen at the location. The notebook was later found after a number of enquiries but the torch is still yet to be found.
"This is a valuable piece of safety equipment which police would like back, even if it miraculously appears at the front of the station," duty officer Chris Varley said.
"Someone has intentionally taken it which is the wrong thing to do, so to get it back would be good."
