The two young men, both 22, were recognised as Queanbeyan's 'Young Citizens of the Year' at this year's official ceremony at Queanbeyan Town Park.
Andrew Daniels, a local SES volunteer of four years, is a team leader with the Queanbeyan SES and is highly regarded by SES executive for "demonstrating ability beyond his years in emergency situations."
His good mate Brent has also previously been recognised for his service after winning the inaugural NSW State Emergency Service Local Young Volunteer of the Year award last year.
While he's often helping others in emergency situations, Mr Hunter said the SES had also proved a lifeline for him after being asked to leave his high school in year 10. He said it was the "wake-up call" that pushed him to volunteer to help his community while he finished his schooling off at Dickson College.
"I was looking for ways to become less of a d___khead really, and the SES was a real game changer for me," Brent told The Queanbeyan Age this month.
Brent has also set a new community goal for himself in 2015- to get in shape and sign up for the NSW Police Force.
