Man caught with taser
A TASER disguised as a torch has landed a Wagga Wagga man in hot water after he was caught showing it to other patrons at a Queanbeyan hotel.
The 44-year-old man was demonstrating how the electronic control device worked at a Monaro Street pub at about 10.30pm on Friday, December 5.
A security guard observed the man with what appeared to be a taser and police were called.
"The black torch, about 20cm in length, had the capabilities to work as a taser," Inspector Scott Tozer said.
"The man said he had bought it overseas and thought it was legal to use but unfortunately it's not in Australia. This serves as a reminder to people that things they purchase overseas could be illegal to possess in Australia."
Queanbeyan police said it was an unusual occurrence and while they often confiscated prohibited weapons, it generally didn't occur at a hotel. The man will appear in Queanbeyan Local Court on January 14.
