Margaret first pulled out the camera in early 2013 just as Old Cooma Road was starting to be realigned as part of the construction of Googong. She was just looking for someway to capture and record all the changes that were happening right before her eyes.
"I started taking photos of the land before the road construction and just during the different stages of what's going on," she said.
"My children will be the fourth generation to live on this land and it's a beautiful spot. I wanted to have something to show them when they're older; show them what the place used to look like.
"My nan and pop have old photographs of what the property used to look like and I really enjoy looking at them."
The 34-year-old said her photography has progressed and she is inspired by everyday life on the family farm. She loves to show people what it's really like living and working off the land. She also enjoys, much to the chagrin of her children, photographing her two sons.
"My six-year-old, Anthony is quite shy and often tells me to put the camera down but Peter bears with me," she said.
"Photographing is something I like to do and it's grown into something more.
"I like recording the kids as they grow up and all the animals we help raise. I would like to put together a bit of a calendar of photos for my parents this Christmas."
In fact, an impromptu photo shoot while location scouting for the family Christmas calendar resulted in an award-winning photograph.
A black and white portrait of Peter recently won the Queanbeyan Show ribbon for champion amateur photographic exhibit.
"We were just walking around the paddocks looking for a spot to take some family photos," Margaret said.
"We were over near the shearing shed and Peter jumped behind and poked his head out being cheeky.
"It was a big surprise to win [the Queanbeyan Show ribbon] as it's the first year I've entered."
Margaret started off with a very simple, hand-me-down camera from her sister - "it was rough and basic" - but was recently gifted an Olympus camera.
"Once I was given the new camera, I thought 'now I can actually take some nice photos'," she said.
"I'm self-taught and just learning as I go. I don't really understand all the settings so I hope to do a course to figure them out.
"I try to take a photo every few days whether it be of kangaroos or our dog in the paddock."
Margaret also shoots with an iphone 5 and uploads her work to her Instagram account @margheff as well as managing the Instagram account belonging to another family member, their pet dog Molly (@mollythejackrussell).
"My niece first told me about Instagram and taught me how to use the hashtags," she said.
"As for our dog, Molly, she has more followers than I do! She has 755 people following her from all over the world including Italy, America and France."
