The cricket community has rallied to support the other person in the Phillip Hughes tragedy, with social media flooded with well-wishers for fast bowler Sean Abbott.

Abbott, a former NSW teammate of Hughes, delivered the bouncer that felled the left-hander.

"Sean has been at the hospital yesterday," said Australian team doctor Dr Peter Brukner

"He has been getting a lot of support from Cricket NSW and his teammates.

"When he came to the hospital yesterday, Michael Clarke came down and spent a significant amount of time with him. Phillip's sister, Megan, also came and deliberately spent time with Sean.

"Obviously what Sean has gone through is an incredibly traumatic experience, as it has been for everyone present on the field that day.

"Sean is receiving all possible support from Cricket NSW and Cricket Australia."

Late on Thursday, police confirmed they will prepare a report for the Coroner. It is understood they have already spoken to witnesses to the incident, including Abbott.

A death can be reported to the Coroner for several reasons, including if the death was unexpected, unnatural or resulted from an accident or injury.

NSW Police would not say how many witnesses, or who, they intend to conduct formal interviews with. "No further information is available at this time," a spokeswoman said in a statement.

While there has been an outpouring of grief for Hughes on Twitter, the plight of Abbott - who was at St Vincent's Hospital to pay his final respects on Thursday - has not been forgotten.

"How desperately sad we all are to hear of Phillip Hughes' death," Treasurer Joe Hockey said via social media.

"For Phillip I offer my prayers.

"For Phillip's family I offer my deepest condolences.

"For Sean Abbott, I join with the nation in offering unqualified support during this desperately difficult time."

Former wicketkeeper Adam Gilchrist was one of many cricketing greats lending their support to Abbott.

"May those footprints in the sand now support another young man in need. #SeanAbbott" Gilchrist tweeted.

Concerns for Abbott's welfare weren't confined to Australian identities.

Legendary English all-rounder Ian Botham tweeted:  "A very sad day for the world of cricket. So sorry for Phillip Hughes and his family .
Spare a thought for Sean Abbott."

Another English celebrity, Piers Morgan, offered:
