In the early hours of Tuesday, November 25 the owner of a Uriarra Road residence managed to scare off an intruder after he went downstairs to investigate a disturbance.
Police allege the offender broke into the Queanbeyan business premises at about 2am before proceeding to the residential area on top of the building when he was confronted by the 45-year-old male occupant of the house.
The intruder fled the scene and left in a dark brown four wheel drive with a black bullbar.
He is described as being a six-foot tall male of solid build with black hair and olive skin. He is estimated to be about 30-years-old.
The incident follows a number of burglaries and attempted break-ins over the past weekend.
Monaro Local Command Inspector Nick Hallett is warning residents to stay vigilant particularly in the lead up to Christmas.
He is reminding homeowners to ensure their doors and windows are locked even in the hotter weather.

A thief or thieves managed to steal a handbag from a residence in Waterfall Drive, Jerrabomberra over the weekend.
The occupants of the home believe someone gained entry into their house while they slept on Saturday, November 22.
The next morning they discovered the handbag was missing and damage to a rear screen door.
Another three attempted break and enters were also reported including one at Halloran Drive, Jerrabomberra. Officers discovered tool marks left on a door and a smashed window indicating someone tried to unsuccessfully gain entry into the property.
Nearby at Kalang St, Jerrabomberra burglars have also tried unsuccessfully to force entry through a door.
The final attempted break and enter was reported at High Street, Queanbeyan. It is believed to have occurred sometime over the weekend while the occupants were away.
Insp. Hallett said there was very little indication that the attempted break-ins were linked as there were no distinguishing features to tie them together.
"We ask residents to be more vigilant especially in the lead up to Christmas because at a time when many people are preparing and buying presents, thieves are preparing for their Christmas too," he said.
"Also, during this hot weather many are leaving their windows and doors open but they should ensure they are closed and locked [when leaving the house or asleep]."
