The 24-year-old man was walking near the intersection of Monaro Street and Collett Street, Queanbeyan, when he was approached by three women about 12.30pm.
One of the women allegedly restrained the man while another assaulted him and took his wallet. The trio fled the location a short time later.
The man was not injured during the incident. He recovered his wallet a short distance away but some cash had been stolen.
“Given the time of day and the location of Monaro Street, being the main street of Queanbeyan, it was a very unusual occurrence,” Queanbeyan Police inspector Scott Tozer said.
“It was a fairly brazen attack on the man.”
Officers investigating the robbery have collected CCTV footage from businesses along Monaro Street and are currently examining it. They hope to be able to identify the offenders in the next few days, inspector Scott Tozer said.
Queanbeyan Police would like to speak to the three women and have urged anyone with information about their whereabouts or the robbery to come forward.
The first woman is described as being of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander appearance, about 30-years-old and of a large build. She was last seen wearing a black t-shirt.
The second woman is described as being of Caucasian appearance and about 30-years-old. She was last seen wearing a white t-shirt and pyjama pants.
The third woman has only been described as being of Caucasian appearance and about 30-years-old.
