The Golden Shoe Award is given to individuals who have shown support, dedication or may have gone the extra mile to help community members improve their health through walking.

Eileen's specialty is taking care of the group's social calendar. The 80-year-old is in charge of the putting together social gatherings and organises special birthday celebrations and other festivities.

Group leader, Geoff Schmidt described Eileen as "the key in the backbone of the group".

"She contributes the most to the success of the group," he said.

"She maintains a watch on who may be ill and sick and arranges hospital visits, if there's a special birthday she'll make sure there's cakes provided or luncheon and she organises Christmas in July and Christmas party [for us].

"She's a good worker."

Eileen joined the group in 2006 and said she's a born organiser, she just loves bringing people together and throwing a celebration.

"We have a good walking group and I'm just honoured [to receive the award...to even be nominated was great," she said.

"I enjoy talking to people and they're just such a great group. We have lots of people who say the walking group's been a lifesaver for them because it gives them the chance to get around and talk to people."

The Queanbeyan Heart Foundation Walkers is the biggest Heart Foundation walking group in New South Wales. They meet at 8.50am, every Thursday opposite Byrne's Mill on Collett Street.
