Man charged over possession of 'ice'

A 40-year-old man will front Queanbeyan Local Court after he was found in possession of 3.4 grams of methylamphetamine, also known as 'ice'.
Queanbeyan Police stopped on man while he was driving on Southbar Road at 11.30pm on Tuesday, October 28.
Officers noticed the man was acting suspiciously and search his car where they located a quantity of what they believe is 'ice' as well as a knife.
A further search of the man's house uncovered a small quantity of ice and cash. The total amount of the drug was 3.4 grams.
The man was charged with two counts of possessing a prohibited drug, dealing with the property or proceeds or crime and being in posession of a prohibited weapon.
He will appear at Queanbeyan Local Court on November 24.
Karabar man charged over weekend dispute
A 56-year-old Karabar man has been charged after arguing with neighbours and threatening them with a tomahawk over the weekend.
Queanbeyan Police were called to attend the Southbar Road residence at about 6pm on Saturday, October 10.
Queanbeyan Police Inspector Chris Varley said the man reportedly exited his house that evening in an intoxicated state. He verbally abused members of the public and neighbours in the vicinity.
He continued verbally fighting with some bystanders and briefly entered his home and came back outside with a tomahawk in hand.
The fighting continued and calls were made to the police, by the time officers arrived the man no longer had the tomahawk.
However, he was still fighting with one other person. The man threatened violence towards this other person, police allege.
Police officers attempted to break up the fight. The man became aggressive towards officers when they tried to resolve the matter between the two parties.
The man was charge with affray, assaulting a police officer and resisting arrest. He will appear in Queanbeyan Local Court at a later date.
Taxi driver assaulted, robbed
QUEANBEYAN Police are appealing for the assistance of the public after a taxi driver was robbed at Queanbeyan on Monday, October 27.
Around 9pm, the 28-year-old taxi driver picked up a passenger from Bunda Street, Canberra and drove him to Queanbeyan.
As the driver stopped the car near a tennis court in Campbell Street, the passenger left the taxi. The driver followed him and was approached by two other men.
The males threatened him and grabbed his arms. The three men returned to the taxi and stole cash before leaving on foot through a nearby park. The taxi driver was not injured during the incident, and reported the matter to police.
The passenger is described as being aged in his early to mid-twenties, is of Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander appearance and clean shaven. He was last seen wearing dark clothing and a baseball hat.
The second man is also aged in his early to mid-twenties, Caucasian appearance, about 173cm tall with a medium build. He has short light brown hair. He was wearing light coloured shorts and T-shirt. The third man was not described.

Mystery surrounds car fire
QUEANBEYAN Police are still investigating the mysterious circumstances surrounding a car fire that happened on Thursday, October 24.
A Ford Telstar Sedan caught fire at about 10.30pm on Derrima Road, Queanbeyan. Queanbeyan Fire Brigade attended the scene and extinguished the flames.
Officers believe the blaze appeared to have started in a garbage can that was close by to the car. The back section of the vehicle was destroyed.

Hit and run in car park
QUEANBEYAN Police are requesting the public's help in tracking down the owner of a 1985 white Isuzu involved in a hit and run on Friday, October 24.
Inspector Varley said the driver was travelling at excessive speed through the Aldi Supermarket car park on Crawford Street when it collided with another vehicle at about 2.15pm.
The driver of the offending vehicle has left the scene without exchanging details with the other driver. Registration details have been given to police and inquiries continue.
