Donning the school uniform, hi-vis vest and hardhat, Zoe is the first student to walk through the private school.

The year two student said she was excited about starting at the school come January 28, 2015.

Interested parents and prospective students will have their own chance to see the school with an open day organised for Sunday, October 19.

"We really love the fact that the school has taken on board the community aspect of the whole of Googong Precinct," Zoe's mother, Nadia said.

"We love the fact that [foundation principal] Ian Hewitt and [teacher] Claire Dalziel have really continued the community feel through the Anglican School."

Nadia along with her husband John bought a block at Googong enticed by the community values being promoted for the new suburb. They are currently living in Harrison and are looking forward to moving over this side of the border.

"I think the concept of community in a lot of places is lost. We're living out the back of your house and not the front. You don't who your neighbours are," she said.

"I like the building codes of Googong have really embrace that community feel."

Foundation Principal Ian Hewitt (formerly of Canberra Grammar School) is equally as eager as Zoe to see the primary school completed and open for students and teachers. A high school will be open in 2018.

The co-education facility will eventually accommodate up to 1100 students and feature contemporary learning environments, a student hub, library, hall, basketball courts, outdoor amphitheatre and buildings.

"Am I excited? Absolutely. Especially when you see a student walk through the door for the first time with a great big grin on her face - that's a child that wants to go to this school and to engage with it. To see that smile, really made my day," he said.

"We want make this a place where the students want to learn and know how to learn. Having worked in a place like Canberra Grammar and other Canberra schools, you learn the importance of tradition.

"The fact that we're starting from ground zero, we have be conscious of 'what do we want to become the traditions?'."

Mr Hewitt said enrolments have largely come from Queanbeyan and surrounding regions like Burra and Bungendore and a small percentage from Canberra. The school is now taking enrolments for future classes.
