The most popular event of the day was the raft regatta, where 13 entrants showcased their designer ability and put their rafts to the test to see whose could handle the river the best.

Mr Overall said the raft-builders this year had done a fantastic job.

"I was also a judge on the panel for marking each raft, and it was a very tough job to judge each one differently," he said.

The day also featured a sculpture display, market stalls, face painting, childrens games, water balls, and kayaks for people to try out.

Mr Overall said after Saturday's successful event that it was here to say, and said it was one of Queanbeyan's peak events for the year.

"This is certainly a big event for Queanbeyan, and it brings the community together," he said.

The raft called 'Big bloke, little bloke and a little boat' won the inaugural raft race with rowers Russell Murphy and Paul Hartlip.

Designed exactly like a kayak, rower Russell Murphy said the design got his team the win.

"I thought if we made it exactly like an actual boat, in theory, it would sail like a boat," he said.

"I think our design definitely helped us win. We were well ahead of everyone else."
