A total of 3,511 random breath tests were conducted across the Monaco Local Command with only two positive results.
On Friday, October 3, a 24-year-old Queanbeyan man returned a reading of 0.158 after losing control of his Toyota Hilux when he was avoiding a kangaroo. He hit a tree and flipped his car on Sutton Road.
The man was charged with high range drink driving and will appeared in Queanbeyan Local Court on November 3.
The next day, police caught a 47-year-old man driving in Berridale with a reading of 0.124. He was charged and will front Cooma Local Court on October 29.
“We’re pretty happy in relation to the drink drives. Two out of more than 3000 test is quite good but we’re less impressed with the 118 speeding fines we had to issue,” Queanbeyan Police inspector Scott Tozer said.
Police also issued a further 66 tickets for other offences including not wearing a seatbelt and driving an unregistered vehicle. One man was fined $1626 after officers discovered a radar detector in his car.
