Boland, the man credited with single-handedly taking Seven's Sunrise to number one in the country, has been issued a summons over his new book, which was due to be released in November.

The Seven Network wants to see an early copy of Boland's book, Brekky Central, based on the argument that it could be in breach of the network's confidentiality agreement. An injuction hasn't been served, but Boland's publishers say they wouldn't normally send out early copies so an order has been sought through the Sydney courts.

Brekky Central gives Boland's take on the most highstakes timeslot on television and will be published by Melbourne University Publishing (MUP).

"We are renowned for publishing books with spine," says MUP chief executive Louise Adler. "We stand by this very personal book and the author. Brekky Central is a celebration of television"

Adler says Boland is brutally frank about himself and the personal cost of success,  and that "it is a book for our times".

Despite the news of Seven's legal action, MUP says the book will be released shortly, and hopes it will be read by "the many fans of breakfast television, an army of sensitive media executives and overworked life coaches around the nation".

Boland made his name as a kind of wonderkid of breakfast TV  during his time at Sunrise, but left in early 2013 to launch rival breakfast show Wake Up on Channel Ten. Not long after Boland made the switch, however, he was forced to step back from his role .

He had previously been diagnosed with bipolar disorder and three days after the show's launch he had a breakdown, causing his departure to focus on his health.

Wake Up was axed by the Ten Network earlier this year due to poor ratings.

Boland now lives in Canberra with his partner.
