The 26-year-old Lebanese man was visiting Australia on a student visa when he "married" the underage girl during an Islamic ceremony in the Hunter Valley in January.

Child abuse detectives said the man was "shocked" when he was charged with 25 counts of having sexual intercourse with a child aged under 14 between January 1 and February 4 this year.

Burwood Local Court heard the accused and the prosecution agreed on the facts but a plea could not be formally entered without the signature of the defendant.

Police also laid an extra charge, bringing the total number of offences to 26.

He was granted bail earlier this year but remains in Villawood Immigration Detention Centre after his student visa was revoked.

The court has previously heard he believed he had done nothing wrong and pleaded to see the victim while he was in custody.

Documents previously tendered to the court allege the father allowed his daughter to "marry" the university student at his house.

The girl then moved to south-west Sydney with her "husband", after they were given permission by the girl's father.

He also allegedly gave her sexual advice and arranged for a queen-sized bed in which they could sleep.

"The advice was that she should not use the contraceptive pill nor should [her 'husband'] wear a condom when they have sexual intercourse," the documents said.

The girl's father was granted bail in June even though a magistrate described the case against him as "abhorrent, disgusting and disgraceful".

He is expected to face trial next March.

A Muslim cleric who conducted the ceremony pleaded guilty in April this year and was fined $500 before being deported to Pakistan.

It is understood the victim met the accused through a local mosque.

The girl and her eight-year-old sister are being cared for by the Department of Family and Community Services.

The student's matter returns to court on October 9.
