Committee member Kellie Strawbridge said they had secured some funding from Queanbeyan City Council and individuals but more was needed to run the event to the standard they would like. They are now asking for businesses to provide sponsorship in any way, shape or form.

"A few years ago I know they had Jimmy Barnes headlining [the Festival of Ability]. It's always been a big, successful community event that we would really love to see running again this year," Ms Strawbridge said.

"To put something on at the level we want, we really need donations and sponsors."

Regardless of whether they secure the money, committee members said the show will go on come Saturday, December 6 - albeit as a slightly smaller affair.

They are hoping to organise a free family fun day that will include entertainment, activities for the children like a jumping castle, art and crafts, egg and spoons races as well as a barbecue.

The headline act will be the Friends of Jimmy Choir - a community choir that was born out of the first Queanbeyan Festival of Ability.

The committee has their hearts set on a night laser show which has proved to be the most costly part of the project and the area where they need money for the most.

Ms Strawbridge said the Festival of Ability deserves to be a big affair.

"It's important to just celebrate people with all diverse backgrounds, people living with disabilities and people with young children. Just to have a big community event where people can come together," she said.
