Cr Cregan has been president of the local business chamber for the past three years, but said this week his Council work was proving too demanding to allow him to continue in both roles.
"It's just to enable me to fully concentrate on Council work, and to enable the Chamber to function correctly as a business chamber," he said.
"I've been there for three years and I've had three terms as presidents, so it's probably time for some change and someone for more enthusiasm and opportunity [to come in]."
Business Chamber 2IC Graham Coddington has stepped in to the president's role and a new president will be elected at the next annual general meeting in November.
