QUEANBEYAN City Council is seeking expressions of interest from residents/business operators and professionals for two recently-established advisory committees.
At Council's July meeting it resolved to form a Cinema Project Advisory Group, while at the August meeting it was agreed that a Rates and Charges Advisory Committee would be established.
Both committees will involve a number of councillors, but are also seeking the input of individuals.
The Cinema Project Advisory Committee, which includes Cr Jamie Cregan (chairperson), Cr Kenrick Winchester, Cr Sue Whelan and Cr Brian Brown, is seeking representatives for four positions - two members of the business community (business operators) and two members of the general public (community members who don't operate a business).
The Committee has been tasked with overseeing an independent feasibility study for a cinema in Queanbeyan and negotiation a draft Memorandum of Understanding with a cinema operator if a feasibility study supports a cinema in Queanbeyan.
The Rates and Charges Advisory Committee includes Cr Sue Whelan (chairperson), Cr Peter Bray, Cr Jamie Cregan and Cr Brian Brown. The Committee is seeking nominations for the positions of independent legal advisor and experienced Local Government practitioner/administrator.
The Committee has been established to review the rates and charges Council levies for water consumption, water access, sewer access and domestic and business waste charges and the associated policies and procedures.
All committee positions are voluntary positions.
Expressions of interest are currently being called for both committees with applications closing on 16 September (Rates and Charges Advisory Committee) and 17 September (Cinema Project Advisory Committee). Reports regarding both committees will be presented to Council's meeting on 24 September when representatives will be appointed.
