The Queanbeyan Blues reserve grade side will join their first grade elders back at Seiffert Oval next week, after smashing cross-town rivals the Queanbeyan Kangaroos 42-16 in their preliminary final on Sunday.

It was anyone's until 10 minutes before half time, when the Blues side put on a display that could see them head into next weekend's grand final, against the West Belconnen Warriors, as favourites.

Earlier on Sunday, the Blues' under 18s outfit fell just short of making it three Blues grand final teams next Sunday, with the Tuggeranong Bushrangers going up 22-16.

The reserves match began evenly, but the Kangaroos were kept scoreless for the last 50 minutes of the match, and this proved their downfall as they said goodbye to season 2014.

The Blues managed two tries in 10 minutes to lead 22-12 at the break, and their momentum did not show any signs of stopping.

They soon scored another try to go up by 16 points, and while much of the second half was played in the middle of the park, they only defended one set of six on their own goal line.

A further three tries sealed the deal for the home side, with the Kangaroos scoring a consolation on the full-time buzzer.

The Blues will now turn their attention to taking out their first title since 2012.
