NBN Co chief executive Bill Morrow says the company could cut high-speed broadband plans to save costs if the Vertigan Review's broadband predictions come true.

The Vertigan Panel's cost benefit analysis used forecasts by Communications Chambers, that predicted 50 per cent of Australians would only need 15 megabits per second in 2023 and that only 0.01 per cent of households would need 48 megabits per second or more.
NBN Co's profitability could be at risk if the predictions come true and customers avoid buying the more expensive and higher speed products.
Mr Morrow said it was up to the federal government to change the national broadband network's technologies to match the forecasts.
"If they were to change that and lower [our speed requirements] then actually there would be some other opportunities to reduce the build that has yet to be done," he said.
When asked for his assessment of the forecasts, Mr Morrow said he was "anxious" to find out more about how they reached their conclusions.
"Many people would be happy today with 15 megabits per second but I am a good believe personally that there is going to be a data tsunami that is going to come in and hit us," he said.
"I sit on a board that's a chip maker that's all about wireless and connections and the stuff we look at ... is a two to three year lead to what we see in the marketplace.
"It is a voluminous amount of data that is going to be consumed."
