Sporting a blonde bob wig, Kidman's bear-hating character is described as "sinister and seductive".
The movie, based on the much-loved children's books by Michael Bond, is produced by David Heyman (Harry Potter) and directed by Paul King (The Mighty Boosh).
Kidman plays alongside Downton Abbey's Hugh Bonneville and Peter Capaldi (Doctor Who) in the movie, which is set for release in Australia on December 11.
The CGI-created Paddington is voiced by Ben Whishaw after Colin Firth quit the project in June when he admitted his voice wasn't right for the role of the marmalade sandwich eating, accident-prone visitor from Peru.
In the Paddington stories, the diminutive bear famously arrives at the London station that gives him his name with a sign around his neck reading, "Please look after this bear".
Initially bewildered by modern London after being brought up in the Peruvian jungle, things begin looking up for Paddington after he is taken in by the kindly Brown family.
The latest trailer depicts Paddington wreaking havoc as he tries to settle in to his new home.
