While the club has existed and has been in action at their Hoover Road location in Queanbeyan now for 25 years, this year will see them use the Bungendore Showgrounds and Racecourse for the first time in a bid to expand their participation to the country areas near Queanbeyan.

It all comes as the club prepares to host the NSW State Field archery tournament in Tuggeranong in October, with the club also hoping to hold the State Clout event at its new Bungendore location next year.

"The goal of opening up the Bungendore range was to bring archery to the small towns around Queanbeyan, and really to expand our community outreach and boost participation," said Queanbeyan Archery Club secretary Adam Buoro.

Buoro lives in Braidwood himself, and said for too long members of his club living outside of Queanbeyan had been travelling long distances to shoot arrows at targets.

Approximately 30 people turned out to the opening of the Bungendore range, which was opened for three hours, taking free shots with bows and getting archery lessons in a nutshell from club instructors.

Club competition starts this month and runs till the end of the year, and anyone interested in registering with the club will be able to shoot for three weekends before making that decision.

Buoro said should Bungendore prove a success, the club will make plans for their Braidwood expansion "straight away".

Competition at Hoover Road will be held on Sunday mornings this year, while Saturday morning shoots will be at Bungendore.
