Blair will ride at 11pm local time tonight, but will be preceded by Ballard, who is set to complete her heat at 8.30pm in the 1500 metre wheelchair race in the para sport side of the Games.

And having already competed at four Paralympic Games and two Commonwealth Games, she will go into her race full of confidence.

Her parents Kristin and Bill Ballard, along with their many family members and friends will be watching eagerly tonight.

Kristin Ballard said Angela had been well prepared by coach and former champion Paralympic athlete Louise Sauvage.

"Angie is one of three athletes being coached by Louise, and she has always coached them very well, so I'm sure Angie will do herself proud again," she said.

Angela will be racing in a T54 category race, which covers any wheelchair race over 800 metres, but she has traditionally raced in the T53 category, which is any race between 100 metres and 800 metres.

She is currently the world number one in the 400 metre event, and has one numerous other World Championships events, including the 4x100m and 4x400m events in 1998, and the 100m in 2002.

She competed at the Sydney 2000 Paralympics aged just 18, and won a Paralympic medal for the first time at the Athens games- bronze in the 100m event.

In Beijing 2008 she picked up two bronze medals and a silver, while improving four years later in London with two silvers and a bronze.

She has lived in Sydney for 12 years now, and has completed her honours degree in psychology at the University of Sydney.

In the lead up to Glasgow, she competed in Switzerland back in April, and has spent much of the last few months training in the northern hemisphere.

The Commonwealth Games can be seen on channel ONE from 6:30pm.
