As his life and the lives of those he loves increasingly hang in the balance, he turns to his father for assistance. But how can a father help his son when he too is behind the largest witch hunt the world has ever seen?
The Q Performing Arts Centre in Queanbeyan will host Canberra playwright Duncan Ley's multi-award winning play, The Burning, opening next Thursday night July 31.
It's a court-room thriller at once historical and contemporary, both an epic melodrama and poignant examination of the bonds and rifts between father and son. From its whimsical opening, through twists and turns, all the way to its shocking climax, The Burning will have you on the edge of your seat.
The production features well known Canberra actors Jarrad West, Duncan Ley, Tony Turner and Geoffrey Borny and features music specially composed for the production by international composer, Tim Hansen. They are joined by rising stars of the ACT area in a special collaboration with college students in the ACT and Queanbeyan area.
It's the latest in a string of Everyman Theatre productions to play at The Q, and The Q's artistic director Stephen Pike said the local company had a strong reputation in the region.
"Everyman Theatre was included in our very first subscription season in 2009 performing their powerful production of In Cold Light," Mr Pike said.
"We still get comments on the impact of this production five years down the track. So we are thrilled to have them back in the venue again with what I am sure you will find is a riveting, edge of your seat production."
n Catch 'The Burning' at The Q Performing Arts Centre from Thursday, July 31 until Saturday, August 10. Tickets are $49/adults, $44/concessions and $41/matinees. To book, visit www.theq.net.au or phone the box office on 6285 6290.
