Husband and wife Bill Calder and June Calder both celebrated their 85th and 80th birthdays respectively with most of their families and friends, many of whom had travelled from interstate.
June was even surprised by one of her grand daughters who had come up all the way from Tasmania.
Food and drinks were plentiful, and the event proved to be a great family reunion for all involved.
But it was Bill's friend Max who had the most to say about his 1948 National Service comrade.
"He always laid his clothes out on his bed the neatest of all of us," said Max.
"He did that so well he impressed the sergeant, and the sergeant told us we should all follow Bill's example."
