The rugby league club has a proud history in the Group 8 competition, having last tasted premiership success in 2006.
While the club has enjoyed its time in the George Tooke competition, president Greg Smith believes the Magpies rightful place is back in the top-flight competition. Whilst it is a much stronger competition, Smith believes the home-grown talent running around in George Tooke can be competitive in the Raiders Cup.
Smith went on to say that the George Tooke competition has been fun to be a part of, however by only having the one team we have lost a number of local players as they could not be kept under the maximum playing squad of 25.
"Yass has a lot of talent playing in the George Tooke competition with Binalong and Yass, and with strong player numbers coming through the junior ranks the committee and I believe that for the benefit of rugby league in Yass we need be part of the Canberra Raiders Cup in all three grades," Smith told the Tribune.
"We hope the entire town, local businesses and supporters get behind the mighty Magpies in their quest for success in 2015."
Smith has sent the call out for interested parties to apply for coaching roles in all three grades. Resume's should be sent to president Greg Smith at greg.smith@landmark.com.au, with applications closing on July 28.
