THEY say love strikes when you least expect it. For Chris and Kristy it was at a mutual friend's party held at the Canberra Irish Club in the spring of 2009.
The chance meeting almost didn't happen with Kristy's friend struck down with a migraine and Chris wanting an early night in. But, fate intervened.
"[Chris and I] had gone to primary and secondary school together, he was in the year above with my sister. His pick up line was 'you're Linda's sister...?'," Kristy explained.
Fast forward four years and the pair were happily engaged during their third anniversary dinner at Bungendore's Le Tres Bon on January 18, 2013.
"The waiter brought out a miniature Eiffel Tower with a giant heart biscuit with the ring attached. Chris knelt down and said something along the lines of 'the last three years have been the best of my life'. Then I had no idea what was happening and didn't hear the rest - something about spending the rest of our lives together," Kristy said.
"And I said 'yes', and cried a bit, and then I couldn't finish my dessert because I was shaking and so happy. He was very happy, and he got to eat two desserts!"
Chris and Kristy were married on May 17, 2014 in front of 100 of their family and friends.
They held their 'winter elegance'-themed ceremony at St Gregory's Parish (Kristy is a teacher at St Gregory's Primary School) and reception at The National Press Club in Barton.
"We had a lot of help from family and friends - cake, photography, invitations," Kristy said.
"I was overwhelmed by the amount of people who were willing to pitch in for our special day."
The couple have postponed their honeymoon until later in the year. They plan to travel throughout Europe, Britain and Ireland.
