By now half the planet knows Kristian Nairn, aka Hodor from Game of Thrones, is a house music DJ set to tour his "Rave of Thrones" show, where punters are encouraged to dress up as cast members and dance in front of visuals from the show.

Apparently the shows will be "some of the most anticipated gatherings since the beheading of the Hand".

So why do I feel about as excited as a Stark at a Lannister family reunion?

Nairn, an Irish actor and DJ, plans to tour in August and September, playing six shows including at Sydney's Hi Fi and the Prince Bandroom in Melbourne. These could be fun - and Nairn actually makes pretty good house music (his mixes sound like the early-'90s, but that was a golden era). Tickets are a steal too, at less than $40 for most shows.

But it seems a pity too. Can't we just leave Game of Thrones as a television show and not plaster everything in sight with those three little words while they are still a little mesmerising?

Don't get me wrong, Game of Thrones is a quality show: complex, well-written, cinematic, unpredictable and blackly funny. And it has great characters who are fantastic and all-too real: dragons and bossy, spoiled children. It has massive smelly-looking armies who can't fight properly, a hypnotic emo witch, gnarly baby-eating ice zombies, surly soft-hearted giants, a charming but vengeful dwarf and shadowy Labor-party-inspired powerbrokers. And let's face it: any show in which everyone gets nude at some point that you can watch on telly without a password is doing something right.

And it's made by a cantankerous dreamy nerd who will finish his books in his own good time, if ever. And f--- you if you don't like it.

Perfect: George R.R Martin understands you've got to leave people wanting more.

So what the hell is my problem? I am oversensitive about people thrashing something cool until it basically turns into a James Blunt song, an inherently not-cool thing.

I would have felt just the same if Steve van Zandt had ever associated his wonderful Sopranos character, Silvio Dante, with his E-Street Band role Little Stevie - but notice how he never did? Bless Saint Stevie, that is why he remains one of the coolest men in rock; he didn't need to trade on one to get noticed for the other.

Now four seasons into Game of Thrones fans (who are still struggling to name their community: Throners? Throne Rangers? Thronees?) throw Games of Thrones parties where they will sit on replica iron thrones eating Game of Thrones-inspired food and answer Game of Thrones trivia questions before watching Game of Thrones web parodies. If you find a fellow Throner sweetheart you can get hitched in Game of Thrones-inspired weddings (didn't they watch the red wedding episode?), sit on matching thrones and do Game of Thrones cross-stitch when winter finally arrives.

No. Just no. I'd rather hang out with the white walkers.

What's next? Game of Thrones relationship counselling? (Rule one: do not keep it in the family.) The Tyrion Lannister range of Father's Day gifts? Cesar Millan's How to Train your Direwolf? I was going to say how about Game of Thrones Burlesque - but that's already been done. Twice.

There have been a few subtle appropriations of the brand. Scottish band Chvrches posted a YouTube clip of themselves covering part of the theme tune, but that was before the show really took off. During the recent Bogan Hunters television show, Pauly Fenech introduced us to Tasmanian bogans who slapped each other in the face with their footwear and called it "Game of Thongs". That was so deeply weird it worked.

Throners beware: Game of Thrones seeping into every crevice of life will only have one result - it will become cliched, tired and tacky. And ruined.

Real cool is about demand over supply. The tap cannot be left turned on for something to remain interesting. Right now, the show is still cool and popular but it's approaching the point where it will become more of the latter and less of the former.

It happened to Crocs, Eddie McGuire, Levis, Blackberries, Facebook and it's happening to iPhones and even Barack Obama. At this rate, it will happen to Game of Thrones, as sure as winter is coming.
