QUEANBEYAN'S Westpac branch is currently in the process of a $1-million plus overhaul designed to break down traditional bank/customer divisions and replace them with an open plan, lounge style lay-out offering self-service banking options and tailored advice from banking staff.

Launching early next month, the new-look shopfront will be the first of Westpac's new 'Bank Now' branches to roll out in the Capital region.

Regional general manager Daniel Flowers said the new branch would offer a range of 24-7 banking options through four new specialised ATMs that accept deposits through cash, coins and cheques, as well as allowing small business customers to exchange notes for coins.

"The biggest change is that customers will be able to do their banking 24-7," Mr Flowers said.

"Banks need to continue to remain relevant, and customers are transacting more and more online and have less need to use banks as a transactional facilitator, so it's changing what a branch is about."

Branch manager Belinda Larkin currently employs eight local staff, and said all the staff would be retained under the new format.
