THE Monaro Panthers Football Club will field seven teams in the the southern hemisphere's biggest soccer tournament next week as the annual Kanga Cup hits Canberra's playing fields for another year.

Teams in the under 10s, 11s, 12s, 14s and 16s divisions will go for goal in the hope of bettering the club's impressive record from last year's tournament that saw them take one title and finish runners-up in two other divisions.

And with a record 275 teams from across the country and the world making their way into the nation's capital, there will be no bigger stage for the Queanbeyan club to succeed on.

Panthers under 10s coach Richard Palic is in his fourth season of Kanga Cup action, and knows just how important it is for his club's youth.

"We're all very excited about it again this year," he said.

"Especially for these young guys, it's all about having fun and looking at their development."

"The under 10s side made the grand final two years ago in 2012, so for these guys specifically, we'd love to go one better this year and get that title."

Each side from the club is backing themselves to play well at the tournament, but none more so than the under 14s boys.

They were the last Monaro side to win a Kanga Cup title, doing this when they were at under 13s level last year.

The club will also field two female sides in a positive sign for its equity in youth development.

Games will take place at Southwell Park, Wanniassa, Kaleen, Dickson, O'Connor and Harrison from Monday until next Thursday.

Queanbeyan City Football Club will also field one side in the under 13s division.
