The parents of a 20-year old Queanbeyan Whites player have pressed charges with police against a Wests Lions player following an incident where their son was allegedly assaulted during a fourth grade rugby union match at Campese Field on Saturday.

It is alleged the Lions player received a yellow card during the match for clashing heads with a Whites player, and then wiped blood on the referee’s jersey.
The referee then sent him from the field for the rest of the match, before he walked past the Whites team as they were huddled, and committed a one-punch attack on the 20-year old victim.
Queanbeyan Police confirmed they had received an official report, and are currently investigating the matter.
The Queanbeyan Whites stated today the victim had suffered a broken nose and two black eyes, and were awaiting results of a medical report to discover the severity of his injuries.
It is not yet known how long his recovery will take.
The Lions player in question will answer his case at an ACT Brumbies judiciary hearing on Wednesday night.
Queanbeyan Whites club president David Jones said it was a terrible act of sportsmanship, and appropriate action from the Brumbies would help nullify such acts in the future.
“It’s a great shame,” he said.
“It’s very rare for the police to be involved in a local rugby match, so we need to make sure this does not happen again. A tough stance by the Brumbies would go a long way to achieving this.”
The 20-year old Whites player had just returned to playing again from injury.
Queanbeyan won the game 22-14.
