But for the Austin, Water, Knight and Woodbridge family, this was a reality as the whole family gathered at the Queanbeyan Leagues Club on Saturday afternoon.
And for the youngest and most recent member of the family, Blair Austin, he is a rare child that gets to meet all four of his great mothers.
Fay Woodbridge, one great grandmother on his mother's side of the family, said it was a special treat to have so much of the family still together.
"It's a very rare thing and although none of the great grandfathers are still with us, it's a treat that us great grandmothers can be here with Blair," she said.
Blair is just seven weeks old, and was introduced to the world with his parents and all of his grand and great grandparents- the eldest of which are 80 years old- by his side.
Around 20 members of the family turned out to the Leagues Club on Saturday, enjoying a big lunch as part of their Mothers Day celebrations a day early.
