THE Queanbeyan Whites suffered a shock loss to the Uni-Norths Owls at Campese Field last Saturday, going down 19-17.
The Owls have been the competiton's weakest link for a number of seasons now, and won just a single contest in 2013.
The loss puts the Whites on the back foot after their tight three-point loss to the Tuggeranong Vikings the week before, with just the one 21-point win against the Canberra Royals in round one.
City goes up
QUEANBEYAN City haved moved on from their early season dramas to claim their first win of the Capital League season, 5-0 over Tuggeranong United.
The win moved them into the top five on the ladder.
The club has been unsettled so far this season, with former coach Ante Lavanat walking out as well as a player exodus to the Monaro Panthers.
But coach Zmejko Trajkovski and skipper Goran Milutinovic have grasped the side back together, and are still looking strong heading towards the rest of the season.
Women continue dominance
THE Monaro Panthers Women's Premier League side have now defeated both of their closest rivals to go six points clear at the top of the ladder.
They dispatched Tuggeranong United, who feature two national level players in Sammie Wood and Alex Laurence, 3-2 at Kambah, and do not look like losing any time soon.
Jaline Hoek struck with nineteen minutes remaining to finally kill off Tuggeranong, who had twice come from behind in the opening stanza to send the teams into the changing rooms locked at 2-2.
Yowies get double
THE Queanbeyan Yowies Basketball Association celebrated wins in both the men's and women's draws last Saturday in their second double-header of the year at the Queanbeyan Basketball Stadium.
The men defeated local rivals the Canberra Gunners 84-79, while the women defeated Ryde 79-70.
Illawarra import Talor Goodall top scored with 25 points for the men, while skipper Kristen Langhorn topped with 23 for the women.
Bungendore smashed
Both Bungendore football clubs got off to a nightmare start last weekend in their respective opening matches to their seasons at the town's Mick Sherd Oval.
In the ACT second division rugby union competition, the Mudchooks were outclassed by last year's premiers Jindabyne 30-7 on saturday afternoon.
Jindabyne has not lost a game in nearly two years.
The Bungendore Tigers played a tense encounter against the Binalong Brahams last Friday night, going down easily 38-10.
Netballers undone
Queanbeyan Netball is on the back foot in the Division One of the ACT state league, having lost their fourth straight match to heavyweights Tuggeranong in round four action last Friday night.
They face Arawang and Canberra in the next two weeks which should prove a difficult task with both of those sides suffering just two losses a piece.
Queanbeyan did defeat Arawang in round one.
