Miss Schofield placed eighth out of 30 finalists in the NSW state round held last week, but only the top seven have progressed to the nationals.
The national winner will be announced on June 6 and will be flown to Brazil to represent Australia in the 63rd Miss Universe contest.
Miss Schofield is still in with a small chance if one of the seven competitors withdraws from the contest.
The 19-year-old hasn't let the elimination deter her and plans to enter next year's competition.
"It's a bit disappointing [to miss out] but really, I'm grateful to have progressed as far in the competition as I did. To even get in the top 30 in NSW is an achievement, considering how many girls entered in the first place," she said.
"Now I'm more prepared for next year as I know what to expect. I really want to work on my overall confidence and fitness."
Miss Schofield described the competition, which included a swimwear, evening wear and question and answer section, as "daunting".
However she said the experience has boosted her confidence and opened many doors for her.
"It's a really competitive environment. You're literally standing there and looking around at girls that you think are funnier, smarter and prettier than you. It was uncomfortable at times," she said.
"The competition was more daunting than I expected and I'm a pretty out there person.
"The thing I learnt about myself is that I'm braver than I thought. Standing there in swimwear in a room full of people and photographers is not easy."
Miss Schofield is now focusing her attention on studying broadcast journalism at Melbourne's RMIT University as well as pursuing modelling and acting opportunities.
