Deputy Opposition Leader Linda Burney has demanded Mr Baird
clarify comments he made in a 2012 interview about same sex couples ''choosing to live a homosexual lifestyle'' in the context of the same sex marriage debate.
She said Mr Baird needed to explain whether he still held this ''backward'' view. ''People enter same sex relationships on the basis of love, not because of some lifestyle trend,'' Ms Burney said.
''Mike Baird is wrong to suggest that being gay is anything other than an expression of one's true self.
Mr Baird has said his social views will not affect government decision making and called for both sides to be respectful of the other's views in the same sex marriage debate.
On Saturday, Labor leader John Robertson kicked off a scare
campaign over electricity privatisation that is likely to be a dominant theme of the 2015 March election. Mr Baird has said cabinet is yet to make a decision on whether a $30 billion sale of ''poles and wires'' would be taken to the election.
Mr Robertson said any such move would hurt families.
''The sale of electricity poles and wires will push household bills up,'' he said.
''Even as treasurer, he was hawking himself around the boardrooms of Sydney and elsewhere saying how keen he was to sell off electricity poles and wires.''
