The team was also weakened by a broken ankle to skipper Jay Lee who could be out for the rest of the season.

A brilliant 106-71 smashing of the Bathurst Goldminers last Saturday was followed by an 82-69 loss to the Lithgow Lazers, as they hit the road to Bathurst and Lithgow.

According to Ball the weekend made for an average start with plenty of aspects of the Yowies' game, especially their offensive plays off the backboard, to be worked on.

"We're still getting used to playing as a team and we've got a few new guys this season so we didn't really gel overly well," he said.

"We worked with a few plays that we worked on at training so we got those going but there's still a fair bit to work on."

Ball said that Bathurst are a tough team to play against as they are "a bit all over the place" in their attack, and are hard to defend against.

He said considering it was their first game they played well against Bathurst, but admitted they were only good in patches against Lithgow, and struggled to keep up with their go-forward in attack.

"Jay Lee went down with a broken ankle in that game and we had another guy get knocked out who had to come off, so it wasn't the best game," he said.

Lee will spend a minimum of eight weeks on the sideline.

Ball, son of coach Gary, said Josh Rowcliffe, Sam Burton and Robbie Ball could all easily fill in for Lee, but added that with a long list of 13 names in the squad, their depth would be good enough to cover injuries this season.

"We've got bigger players this year too with Talor Goodall and Sam Burton coming in, so we're pretty confident," he said.
