Sochi Winter Paralympics end in style

The Sochi Winter Paralympic Games started 10 days ago under the threat of war no more than 500 kilometres to the north-west. The host nation had sent its military into the Crimea peninsula following internal conflict in the Ukraine and the spectre remained when it closed early Monday morning (Australian time), a day after tensions between the neighbours significantly increased after Russia's brief invasion of a gas facility on mainland Ukraine and hours after a disputed referendum was conducted.
