Mums on the run

MOTHERHOOD is a concept that most women can't wait to embrace and no childbirth horror story will ever deter them from it. But, having a baby is just the beginning; you're a mother for life, for better or worse.

This is the premise of Sue Fabisch's critically play, Motherhood the Musical, which opens at The Q: Queanbeyan Performing Arts Center on Tuesday.

The play is a hilarious, musical journey about the lives of four modern day mums.

There's Barb, an over-worked, underpaid, stressed-out mother of five; Brooke, the lawyer, who works too much and barely sees her kids; Trisha, a single mum struggling to balance work, her family and her divorce; and Amy, the naive young woman about to have her first child.

As the three friends throw Amy a baby shower, the truth about motherhood (the good, the bad and the ugly) all come out into the open: the nappies, the dirty laundry, the lazy husbands, juggling the demands of children and a career and everything in between.

The play received rave reviews during its 45 week 2011 Australian tour and features 20 original songs, including the Top 10 Billboard Comedy Hit "The Kids Are Finally Asleep".

The joyous musical journey gives audiences an honest look at the blessings and the perils of being a Mum, from the laughing and crying to the craziness and calm and all of the smiles and tears in between.

Motherhood the Musical will run until Sunday, August 19, except nightly performances at 8pm (accept on Sunday, when the performance will commence at 5pm). There will also be a Saturday afternoon matinee, which will take place at 2pm.

Tickets cost $54 for adults and $49 for groups and concession card holders. Matinee tickets cost $44.

The play runs 90 minutes, without an interval, and contains adult themes.

Tickets can be purchased at the theatre's Box Office or by calling 6285 6290 or visiting www.theq.net.au
