Queanbeyan set for state championships

IT’S the event they’ve spent more than six months preparing for. This weekend Queanbeyan’s under-17s netballers will finally get the chance to hit the court in anger at the NSW State Championships in Sydney.

One of the biggest annual sporting events in NSW, the State Championships will see nearly 1500 players and 148 teams from across the state converge on Penrith’s Jamison Park.

Queanbeyan has been building toward this weekend’s competition since the side was selected in September last year.

‘‘This is the main event our girls have been training for,’’ team manager Michelle Smith said.

‘‘Seven of the 10 girls played in this side last year so that experience should hold us in good stead.

‘‘The three younger girls we’ve got coming up from the under-15s, Brooke Gay, Charlee Cremerius and Emma Redmond are all part of the South East Region Academy of Sport. They should definitely benefit from being part of that program.’’
