Club bids fond farwell to former president

EARLIER this week saw the Queanbeyan Women’s Bowling Club give a fond farewell to club stalwart Carolyn Greenland who is sadly leaving the club in search of warmer climes.

Many of the ladies present spoke of Carolyn’s commitment during her 14 years with the club. Carolyn has held a great number of executive positions over the years and has been the club’s delegate to Bowls ACT.

Carolyn is also a qualified umpire and coach and has spent many hours supporting our club in both roles. Hers will be very big shoes to fill but we wish her and Sam all the very best of health and happiness in their move.

On the greens, this weekend will see the club field several pairs in the ACT Prestige Pairs competition at Weston Creek.

The past two weekends have seen competition in the triples championships winnowed down to the last two teams standing.

The grand final will be held on June 23 and will see Jan Sutton, Lorraine Donney and myself meet Margaret Davies, Fay Solway and Bette McDonald.

Margaret, Fay and Bette qualified for the final with a come-from-behind, one-shot win over Karen Harradence, Maree Silling and Maggie Johnston.

The other semi-final saw Jan, Lorraine and myself hold off a late fight back from Sabrina George, Paige Dowsett and Anastasia O’Donnell.

It was also great having many of our newer players participating in the early rounds of competition and they all gave a great account of themselves.

Ladies should also be reminded that the club’s quarterly meeting will be held on Saturday, June 2, not Saturday, June 9 as listed in the club’s calendar.

Finally, our best wishes go out to Berryl Carratt who is recovering a bad fall followed by surgery.
