A JERRABOMBERRA man who was on his way home from a 21st birthday party when he smashed the mirrors off a car parked in his driveway has faced court after the damaged vehicle turned out to be an undercover police car.
Steven Russell Collins, 29, pleaded guilty to maliciously destroying property in Queanbeyan Local Court on Monday.
The court heard the used car salesman returned home just before 11pm on January 22 to find a car parked in his driveway.
Magistrate Doug Dick said Collins had a “temper tantrum” on finding the car because he believed it belonged to another man visiting the house. Collins punched both mirrors causing $160 worth of damage.
“You didn’t just punch one mirror, you punched both of them,” Magistrate Doug Dick said.
Police were inside the house at the time talking with his wife. When asked what he had done Collins left the house and drove away.
In court on Monday he also pleaded guilty to mid-range drink driving and driving an unregistered car on February 4.
He was stopped for a random breath test on Southbar Road at 8pm and returned a prescribed concentration of alcohol of 0.081.
His car was also found to be unregistered at the time.
Collins was fined a total of $1500 and disqualified from driving for six months.
